Woodruff Library MARKING - How to customize the SpineOMatic Flag slip [Marking Slip]

How to customize the flag slip [Marking Slip] in the SpineOMatic software to include more information than the default options provided.

The latest version of these instructions can be found here: F:\Tech Services\New - Teams and WGs\ABM\Marking\marking documentation files\How to customize the SpineOMatic Flag slip [Marking Slip].pdf

These instructions were written using SpineOMatic v.7, and are to be used after SpineOMatic has been installed and configured to communicate with ALMA.

Open SpineOMatic.

Click on the triangle next to Review to open the setup panels.

  1. Before you can customize the flag slip, you must scan in a barcode number first (for an item that has already been cataloged in ALMA). SpineOMatic needs a record to work with. Click on the scan button and scan in a barcode (you can also type in the barcode number shown in this example and press Enter). You should see the book information in the Output box on the left side of the screen.
  2. Click on the Call Number Format tab.
  3. Click the radio button for Custom, and check the box for Print flag slips. You will see the default list of fields that will be included on the slip.
  1. In the XML Sources preview window, double click after the last line of text
  2. Available XML fields for this item will appear in a new window in the sidebar in a new window on top of the normal sidebar view..
  3. Scroll to find the field you want (ex. <current_date>)
  4. and double click to select it.
  5. When you are finished adding fields, click on the pink X to close this sidebar menu.

The fields that you will need to add are: Library Name, Current Date, and your initials.

A desired addition to the default fields that appear is the library name. This helps differentiate between books destined for the Stacks and those that will live at the LSC (Library Service Center). It is very useful for sorting materials as well.

  1. Double Click at the end of the <barcode> line.
  2. Scroll through the list of available XML fields in the left side bar, and navigate to <library_name>, and double click on it.

3.    It will appear next to <barcode.

4.    Click between <barcode> and <library _name> and press Enter to move <library_name>to a new line

5.    Add a ~ (tilde) before the library name field.

  1. You will see the new fields you have chosen in the XML sources preview window.
  2. Click on Save to save your customization changes.
  3. If you reenter the barcode number, you will see the new information in the Output box.
  1. Typing a tilde (~) before the XML field that you are adding will insert a blank line on the slip before the new text. This helps makes the slips easier to read. Add tildes before Library Name, Library Location, Call Number, Title, Current Date and your initials lines. Do not add a tilde before the issue level description line.
  2. To add your initials (or other text), type tilde (~) and then type the desired text (no space between the tilde and the text).
  3. Click on Save to keep your customizations.

Changes you make to the flag slip will not appear in the Output window until you reenter the current barcode number, or scan in a new one.

  1. If you would like to add other customizations, click on these codes.
  2. A pop-up window will appear listing different prefixes you can add before a desired XML field. For example, the ! is what makes the barcode look like a barcode and not just numbers.
  3. To close the pop-up window, click on the pink X.

More information about the codes can be found in the SpineOMatic manual located on Boston College's SpineOMatic downloads page http://arc.bc.edu:8080/Getfile/, or to open the manual directly,

  1. Click on About
  2. The Current XML Tab will open,
  3. Click on the button to get the v.7.0 SpineOMatic manual. It will open as a Microsoft Word document.
  4. Click on the Red X to close the pop up window on this page in SpineOMatic.
