MARKING - Setting up SpineOMatic to make full sheets of call number labels
Instructions on how to set up the SpineOMatic software to be able to make full sheets of call number labels by communicating with Alma, and using a laser printer.
In addition to being able to print single call numbers one at a time, SpineOMatic is also capable of printing large batches of call numbers, on full 8.5" x 11" label paper on a standard laser printer; however, using a BizHub printer is not recommended due to the chance that labels could become jammed inside.
Printing the full sheets of labels requires a little different one-time setup than for the printing of single labels.
Open SpineOMatic.
Click on the triangle next to Review to open up the setup panels.
- Click on the Print Setup Tab
- Next to Printer type, select the radio button for Batch print.
- Click on the ... button next to Printer to select a printer from your list of available printers.
- A new window will open. Scroll through the list to find your desired printer. In this case the set up is for Marking Student Label Printer. Click once to highlight the printer name.
- Click on Print. Don't worry, nothing will actually print at this point.
- When the Printer selection window closes, click on Save.
- The Marking Student Label Printer will now show up in the Printer field.
- You will need to set the margins to match the size of the labels that are being used. In this case, the margins are set to .25 for the top and .15 for the left, and line spacing is set to 0.17 in.
- For the page orientation, select the radio button for Portrait.
- To be able to fit on the label stock that is used at Woodruff, the maximum number of characters per line should be set to 8 characters per line, and 12 lines per label.
- Click on Save.

- In the ALMA URL field, type in https://api-na.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com (this address is the same for all libraries in North America).
- The Method field does not have to be changed.
- You will need to request an API Key by sending an email to [email protected], as mentioned in the the setup instructions for SpineOMatic. Once you have this key, you can paste it into this field from the email that you receive. Core Services staff keep track of the API keys that are assigned.
