MARKING - Setting up SpineOMatic to make single call number labels

Instructions on how to set up Boston College's SpineOMatic software to make single call number labels by communicating with Alma, and using a local Zebra printer.

See the related documentation at the end of this document for instructions on how to download the SpineOMatic software and configure it to be able to communicate with Alma.

 

Open SpineOMatic.

Click on the triangle next to Review to open up the setup panels.

  1. Click on the Call Number Format Tab.
  2. Under Label type, click the radio button for Spine.
  3. Under Call Number Parsing Options, select the radio button for SpineOMatic parsing, and check the box for Include holdings if it isn't checked already.
  4. Click on Tweak & Test.

  1. The Tweak and Test pop up window will open on the LC/Child. Lit/NLM Tab.
  2. Double check to make sure the radio buttons on your screen match this image.

  1. Click on the Holdings Tab.
  2. Remove the check mark in the box for ...but leave it visible inside parentheses.
  3. Add a check mark in the box for Break on spaces between elements.
  4. Click the radio button next to Break before or
  5. Add a check mark in the box for Remove character(s) from holdings
  6. In the yellow box, type ( and ), on separate lines.
  7. To close the Tweak and Test window, click on the pink X in the upper right corner of the pop-up window.
  8. Once the pop-up window is closed, when you have the settings the way you want, click on Save.
  1. Click on the Print Setup Tab.
  2. Next to Printer type, select the radio button for Single label desktop.
  3. Click on the ... button next to Printer to select a printer from your list of available printers.
  4. A new window will open. Scroll through the list to find your desired printer. In this case the set up is for the Zebra TLP2844 printer, and the printer driver used is ZDesigner TLP 2844. Click once to highlight the printer name.
  5. Click on Print. Nothing will actually print at this point.
  1. The Zebra printer will now show up in the Printer field.
  2. You will need to set the margins for your printer to match the label stock that is being used. In this case, the margins are set to .25 for the top, and .15 for the left, and line spacing is set to 0.17 inches
  3. For the page orientation, select the radio button for Portrait.
  4. You can adjust the maximum number of characters per line, and how many lines you would like the label to have. Set the label Maximums to have 8 characters per line, and 12 lines per label to fit the label stock that is used at Woodruff.
  5. Click on Save.

To confirm that SpineOMatic has been properly configured to be able to communicate with Alma,

  1. Click on the Alma Access Tab.
  2. Select the radio button for Use RESTful API has been selected. RESTful is the method SpineOMatic and Alma use to communicate with each other over the web.
  3. In the ALMA URL field, type in https://api-na.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com (this address is the same for all libraries in North America that use Alma).
  4. The Method field does not have to be changed.
  5. You will need to request an API Key by sending an email to: [email protected], as mentioned in the the setup instructions  for SpineOMatic. Once you have this key, you can paste it into this  field from the email that you received. Core Services staff keep track of the API keys that are assigned..
  6. Click on Save if you made any changes to this page.
  1. You will see confirmation in the sidebar that your changes are being saved.
  2. Click on the triangle next to Review to close the setup panels.

You are now ready to make call number labels!
